InclusiveSpaces brings inclusive mobility innovation to the ITS European Congress in Istanbul

At the ITS European Congress 2026 in Istanbul, the conversation around the future of transport is evolving. Beyond smart and sustainable systems, inclusivity is emerging as a defining priority, and InclusiveSpaces is helping lead that shift.

Presented within the ERTICO – ITS Europe European Pavilion (F12), InclusiveSpaces highlights how accessibility and user-centred design can, and must, be embedded into mobility systems from the start.

From principles to practice: inclusive mobility in action

A key strength of this year’s Congress is its rich programme of sessions tackling inclusivity from multiple angles. Several discussions directly reflect the core themes of InclusiveSpaces:

  • TP 9 – System-wide resilience, governance & societal acceptance
    • Beylerbeyi 1 | 28 April | 11:45 – 12:45
This session looks beyond technology, addressing the governance frameworks and public trust needed to ensure inclusive solutions are adopted and sustained at scale.
  • SIS 54 – How do we guarantee inclusive-by-design mobility for all?
    • Yildiz 1 | 29 April | 10:30 – 11:30
Bringing together UPPER, SMALL, and AMIGOS projects, this session explores how inclusivity can be systematically embedded into mobility planning rather than treated as an afterthought.
  • CC 8 – Inclusive by Design: Applying Universal Design Principles in Transport & ITS
    • Üsküdar 1 | 29 April | 11:45 – 12:45
Focused on universal design, this session reinforces the idea that transport systems should be inherently usable by all—regardless of age, ability, or circumstance.
  • SFS 7 – Moving everyone forward: Accessibility-driven transport solutions
    • Maçka | 29 April | 14:00 – 15:00
A deep dive into practical innovations that prioritise accessibility, showcasing how transport systems can better serve people with diverse needs.

InclusiveSpaces within a broader ecosystem

Within this dynamic environment, InclusiveSpaces contributes concrete solutions and methodologies, including:

  • Co-creation approaches that actively involve users in design processes
  • Tools for inclusive urban planning
  • Technologies supporting people with reduced mobility

By aligning closely with the themes explored across the Congress sessions, the project demonstrates how inclusive mobility can move from theory to implementation.

Shaping the future of mobility

The ITS European Congress serves as more than a showcase, it is a catalyst for collaboration across sectors and borders. The strong presence of inclusivity-focused sessions signals a shift in priorities across the mobility landscape.

InclusiveSpaces plays a key role in this transformation, helping ensure that future transport systems are not only innovative and efficient, but also equitable and accessible to all.
