InclusiveSpaces kicks off in Madrid

The InclusiveSpaces project was officially launched mid-June, with a kick-off meeting in Madrid attended by all 17 consortium partners.

InclusiveSpaces seeks to redefine the way we design and create our built environments, to ensure that they are inclusive and safe for people living with disabilities, as well as empowering individuals in vulnerable situations. This Horizon Europe initiative, co-funded by the European Commission and coordinated by cambiaMO, aims to standardize and digitize design frameworks, promoting a transition to a more inclusive and climate-friendly built environment.

Under the Built4People partnership, InclusiveSpaces combines collaborative design and social innovation to create a more inclusive, equitable, sustainable and climate-adaptive infrastructure. The project’s innovative solutions will foster universal design principles, empowering diverse communities and encouraging climate-friendly practices.  By involving people with disabilities and older adults in the design process, we aim to create environments that truly meet their needs.

InclusiveSpaces will develop advanced climate-friendly assistive technologies and five essential planning and design tools to enhance accessibility and comfort. In addition, we are developing innovative assistive technologies. These tools and technologies will be tested and evaluated in real-world scenarios across six European cities:

  • Athens-Penteli (Greece) – where the focus will be on assisting people with visually or mobility related disabilities;
  • Geneva (Switzerland) – where the project will develop inclusive mobility hubs in urban areas;
  • Madrid (Spain) – where we will empower people with intellectual or cognitive limitations in evaluating and assessing accessibility in buildings and public spaces;
  • Larnaka (Cyprus) – where the focus will be inclusive design and seaside accessibility;
  • Hamburg (Germany) – where we will develop mobility hubs on natural leisure areas;
  • Budapest (Hungary) – where we will take a living lab approach focusing on inclusive mobility.

Insights gained from evaluations in the demo sites will be translated into actionable policies and recommendations.
