Insights from the InclusiveSpaces Focus Groups in Larnaka and Madrid

As part of its mission to transform urban environments into spaces of belonging and accessibility, InclusiveSpaces recently conducted two focus groups: one in Larnaka, Cyprus (April 4, 2025), and another in Madrid, Spain (April 10, 2025). The aim was to listen, gather feedback, and improve our work by including the people who are most affected by design decisions. These two sessions gave us practical input on both urban accessibility strategies and the InclusiveSpaces digital tool. InclusiveSpaces is proud to announce its participation in the European ITS Congress, to be held in Seville from May 19th to 21st, 2025. The ITS European Congress is Europe’s premier event showcasing smart and sustainable mobility solutions, connecting industry leaders, policymakers, and experts to shape the future of transport. The InclusiveSpaces project recently hosted a public webinar to explore how our work connects with and continues the efforts of three earlier initiatives: INDIMO, TEACCOST Action, and the MARES project. These projects, each in different ways, focused on making cities fairer and more accessible to people who are often left out of urban planning and transport systems.

Making Waves for Accessibility: TOBEA’s Inclusive Engineering Solutions

TOBEA develops innovative solutions to enhance accessibility for individuals in vulnerable situations, including those with mobility challenges. Inspired by a conversation with a friend who uses a wheelchair, TOBEA’s founders created the SEATRAC system to allow independent access to the sea. They have since expanded their mission, contributing technologies like the Mover iSEATRAC and iKiosk to the InclusiveSpaces project.

InclusiveSpaces kicks off in Madrid

InclusiveSpaces kicks off in Madrid

The InclusiveSpaces project was officially launched mid-June, with a kick-off meeting in Madrid attended by all 17 consortium partners.  

InclusiveSpaces seeks to redefine the way we design and create our built environments, to ensure that they are inclusive and safe for people living with disabilities, as well as empowering individuals in vulnerable situations. This Horizon Europe initiative, co-funded by the European Commission and coordinated by cambiaMO, aims to standardize and digitize design frameworks, promoting a transition to a more inclusive and climate-friendly built environment. InclusiveSpaces Webinar: Continuing the Legacy

The InclusiveSpaces project conducted a webinar where project partners will share key insights and lessons from previous urban inclusion initiatives. “InclusiveSpaces: Continuing the Legacy” showcased how past projects have paved the way for more equitable and sustainable mobility systems and how InclusiveSpaces is building on these foundations to create inclusive environments for everyone.

The event featured presentations from leading contributors, followed by a Q&A session to foster dialogue and engagement with participants.

From IoT to Smart Mobility: advanced tech solutions for people with disabilities

The Embedded Systems & Applications Design Laboratory (ESDA LAB) of the University of Peloponnese is hosting an exciting webinar on Monday, April 7, 2025 from 17:00 to 19:00 EET. EPF's 2025 Annual Conference

June 13-14, 2025 – Swindon, UK

EPF’s yearly conference will feature a diverse programme designed to address key challenges and opportunities in public transport across Europe. InclusiveSpaces will be holding a workshop during the first day of the project.

Sessions will focus on:

  • Back to state operated public transport? From deregulation back to regulation particularly drawing on the British experience;
  • Ticketing and information from regional to crossing the channel (not only Eurostar, also sea links and coach);
  • Women in transport;

ITS European Congress

May 19-21, 2025 – Seville, Spain

The flagship 2025 event for Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) in Europe is uniting experts from mobility, technology, and policy to advance key European mobility and sustainability initiatives. IncluisveSpaces will be holding SIS 52: Building inclusive cities – co-designing accessibility for all, on May 20th, at 16:45.

As cities strive to become more inclusive and climate-friendly, how can we effectively design urban spaces that cater to diverse needs?

This workshop uses the InclusiveSpaces project as a foundation for discussion, focusing on co-designing accessibility solutions with people with disabilities and older adults.

SMACITE Project Conference

May 8, 2025 – Athens, Greece

The SMACITE project will be holding a conference dedicated to the advancement of digital skills and smart city innovation. This event will bring together leading experts, policymakers, and industry professionals to discuss key challenges and opportunities in developing a digitally skilled workforce for the cities of the future. Innovent Forum 2025

February 13-14, 2025 – Larissa, Greece

ESDA LAB, on behalf of our project partner University of Peloponnese, participated as exhibitor in the sicence and technology event Innovent Forum.  More than 40 visitors stopped by UOP’s booth, where InclusiveSpaces was promoted. They had the opportunity to learn more about the project and test the live fall detection demo edition that is under development for the purposes of advancing assisted living technologies that will be deployed in the context of InclusiveSpaces. The booth was visited by Greek governmental representatives, including Minister of Digital Governance, Mr. Dimitris Papastergiou, the member of the European Parliament, Mr. Dimitrios Tsiodras, and Mr. Michael Dritsas, exceutive of the Ministry of Economy & Finance

Built4People Partnership Clustering Meeting

The Bult4People partnership is invested in projects that will accelerate innovations towards a sustainable, people-centric transformation of Europe’s built environment. At this clustering event, the 30 projects funded to date by the Built4People partnership discussed common thematic areas and new projects will be introduced.

Neighbourhood development conference: Hamburg as a climate-friendly city for all

November 13, 2024 – Hamburg, Germany

Stephanie Keßler (State Office, Senate Chancellery – Senate of the Free and Hanseatic City of Hamburg) presented the InclusiveSpaces project during the lecture “Inclusive urban spaces – accessible to all and able to cope with climate change?” at this neighbourhood development conference. The conference looked at different aspects of climate and heat protection in Hamburg as well as measures related to severe weather conditions, as well as “examine” them for accessibility.

REHACARE – International Trade Fair for Rehabilitation and Care Exhibition

September 25-28, 2024 – Düsseldorf, Germany

Our partner TOBEA had the honor of participating in the largest event for rehabilitation and assistive technology innovation: the REHACARE – International Trade Fair for Rehabilitation and Care Exhibition. They proudly showcased the Mover SEATRAC, one of two assistive solutions that will soon be demonstrated in two European cities (Larnaka and Hamburg) as part of the InclusiveSpaces project.
